Creative Conscience

12/09/2016

Today I began to brainstorm ideas with my project, as I had a few social/political ideas that I thought would be suitable. I have decided after some thinking to do an idea based on the recent headlines regarding the closing of London nightclubs. I think it would be a great topic to cover as it is becoming something that is gaining mainstream media attention. I have started talking to potential contributors that are a huge part of the music scene, as I want to include DJ's, club promoters, club photographers, and bar workers, so I can find out how the closure of so many nightclubs is affecting them. I will start writing a proposal within the next few days, and I will also start to research creative conscience so I can find out the client aims.

Today I spent the day researching creative conscience and also planning what to write in my proposal. The main topics I want the documentary to cover are firstly why so many clubs are being shut down, and secondly, how this is affecting our creative youth and diversity. As I will only have around 5 minutes to create this it needs to be straight to the point, so I may use a voiceover to discuss statistics and important notes. I want a gritty, urban, 90's feel to the documentary, so I am planning to use a friends Hi-8 camera to achieve this aesthetic. I am meeting with my friend Kaitlyn tomorrow, to discuss the plan for the pre production, and to also discuss what contributors we could use to make the outcome of the documentary as impactful as possible.

Today I wrote a first draft of my proposal, stating what skills i had gained through the course so far and my work experience, what the purpose of my documentary was, how I was planning to research for it, and also links to some online articles that are backing my point. I met with Kaitlyn from 4-9 to discuss current plans etc, the outcome we have so far is:

  • Kaitlyn will be available 3 days a week, and possibly evenings, so we will film most likely on weekends.
  • Some DJ's Kaitlyn will get in touch with are DJ Hype, Extrah, and his friend Lucas
  • Kaitlyn has connections to the owner of Fabric's son, so it would be great to arrange an interview with him
  • Kaitlyn will start contacting DJ's this week, from this we will create a group chat where we can synchronise meeting times/dates
  • We may do a vox pops at a nightclub
  • We are going to try and contact Sadiq Khan to get his opinion on the closure of Fabric.
  • I will email him my proposal
  • I will start research/sketchbook work this week
  • I will start primary research, and i will also create interview questions over the weekend.
  • Once the Contributors have been confirmed I will create a powerpoint pitch and basic storyline/board to send to Kaitlyn
  • We will then start to film, using most likely a directional or external microphone.
